Our customer, an IT solutions company were bidding for a project alongside a major food manufacturer. This involved an upgrade to the food manufacturer's current Voice and Network infrastructure and a move away from local telephony set ups to a globalised standard. Our customer did not have the resources across Europe to support the work required onsite at each location. With Intact’s support, the customer was able to provide the resource and skills to complete the project across all sites.
Intact worked alongside the customer to agree a process that would allow us to deliver the project as a team to the end user, using a mixture of both the customer's and Intact’s skills. The design authority was held by the customer to ensure that everything was kept to the global standard and the same process was being followed throughout. Intact provided the Project Management skills to manage both the customer's design and configuration skills and also provided and managed the onsite resources.
The onsite resources were provided through the Intact INspan partner network and by working closely with the partners in each company. A realistic and achievable plan was created using resources who were able to speak the local language and who had the necessary Cisco skill set.
• Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Communication Manager, Cisco Unified Attendant Console.
• Cisco Voice Gateways, Cisco VG224 Analog Gateways, Cisco Catalyst Switches, Cisco WAAS Device, Cisco Access Points.
There was one Intact project manager involved in the delivery, who managed both the local partner resource and the customer's resource. A designer was also involved for each of the delivery elements provided by the customer, one for voice, one for network and one for Wireless and a team of 10 engineers working on the ground.
Timescales were difficult as the new Voice Core in Europe needed to be up and running so that a site in Paris could be brought onto it, the big problem here was that the Paris office was moving into a brand new Greenfield office which had no connectivity and therefore we needed to get the voice core up and running (which was in the UK) before the Paris site could be completed. This meant a lot of juggling with resource and planning of activities around each other to ensure everything was ready.
The project enabled the end user to have a consistent global network, which was delivered with refreshed hardware. The end user's business requirements and timeframes were met, enabling the Paris office to move into their new office with full connectivity. This was delivered it all within budget.
By intervening in this project, we improved the relationship between our customer and the end user as it allowed them access to their global operations. Without the use of our INspan partners, they would not have been able to operate on a global scale and there would have been the threat of global competitors.
